Awesome quite formalist place and extraordinary food and service. Been going there for several years and never a bad meal.

We were attending a concert at Civic Theater and the Grant Grill Bar is an outstanding location to start out evening. It is open seating and one must get in early if you want a seat. A gentleman was sitting at a table of four alone. He was finishing up and waiting for a check and invited us to sit at his table. I love the positive attitude of San Diego citizens! The high west manhattan drinks on the rocks is outstanding and with the order of the flatbread the evening began perfectly.

Recently stayed at the US Grant Hotel and decided to use the extra credits from our reservation towards breakfast at The Grant Grill. The host and servers at the bar were all very friendly and accommodating. We ordered at the bar and took our food to go. My boyfriend and I were honestly pretty impressed with the menu options and the food itself. The portions were big and everything was delicious!

Quick Tip: The "Grant Grill Lounge" and "Grant Grill" are located in the same dining area. As staff will happily tell you, there is open seating and the menu color will tell you which food options you have; blue menus were for the lounge for us but I recommend asking to be sure. Over all, this restaurant surprised us with reasonable prices and portions (given the location) with quality to boot. Very impressed and would happily come back! The service was great with consistent water refills, fast open seating and quick food delivery. The ambiance is elegant, elevated and classy. The burger was absolutely amazing with a juiciness to die for, full meaty flavor and a snappy cheese that you can't miss. Best burger I've had in the last decade! The accompanied thick cut fries were just okay. The Ramen Egg was another amazing dish being our favorite ramen egg we've ever had (including all of our several trips to Japan). The Tuna was reasonable with the sauce but, even together, didn't blow us away. FYI, portion sizes are incredibly small for this dish. The charcuterie board was an incredibly big portion with tons of options. You've got honey, almonds, mustard seed spread, nut spread, jam, 2 different meats, 4 different cheeses, pickled veggies, and various fruits. Plenty of food with some good options but the meats were a big let down for us tasting worse than generic grocery store meat. The honey was our favorite but the portion size was incredibly small for this. The accompanied bread was very good. If you're reading this Grant Grill, take out the meat, the mustard spread, and the veggies. Just give us more of that delicious honey in their place! Also, I'd swap the almonds for pecans in a cheese board. We were given a complimentary dessert which was absolutely delicious! I named it as best as I could: a sesame cookie sit atop a scoop of ice cream over a blueberry treat with cookie-like texture in a pie-like crust. The ice cream was soft & creamy which perfectly complimented the warm, doughy, blueberry treat. Thanks to the grill for this very welcome surprise!

I was recently staying at the hotel and had the pleasure of dining at The Grant Grill for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One standout was the turtle soup--it's not made with actual turtles (I think it's beef instead) but I can see why it's been on their menu for over 100 years. Another highlight was the complimentary focaccia bread that came with dinner. It was warm, fresh, and so delicious that I could have made a meal out of it alone. For lunch, I decided to try their Cuban sandwich and it did not disappoint. The flavors were spot-on, with the perfect balance of savory meats and tangy pickles, and it was just the right amount of food to keep me going for the rest of the afternoon. On another occasion, I went for the burger, and it was juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfied my burger craving. The location of the Grant Grill is also a big plus--right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, so it's super convenient if you're exploring downtown San Diego. After dinner, it's nice to just step outside and be in the middle of all the action, go to a speakeasy, etc. The ambiance is an antique vibe that's both classy and comfortable. You can really feel the history in the decor, but it doesn't feel outdated at all. Elegant furnishings and cozy atmosphere. At dinner they also had nice live music from 7 pm to 10 pm!

The Grant Grill is undoubtedly a feast for the eyes. Nestled in the heart of the city, the restaurant exudes a timeless elegance that draws you in the moment you step through the door. We visited on a Friday night, and getting a reservation was refreshingly easy. The soft glow of ambient lighting, combined with the soothing melodies of live jazz--featuring a delicate mix of piano and saxophone--set the perfect backdrop for an evening of relaxation. However, the music leaned a little too heavily into "sleepy" territory, making it more of a lull than a lively accompaniment to dinner. Despite the beautiful surroundings and impeccable service, the food, unfortunately, did not live up to the same high standard. My friends all opted for the steak special, but the excitement quickly fizzled when the knives struggled to make their way through the tough cut. While the flavor wasn't unpleasant, it failed to stand out in a way you'd expect from a signature dish. As for my meal, I went with the lobster gnocchi, hoping for something indulgent and flavorful. What arrived was a dish that felt more like a missed opportunity. While it wasn't terrible by any means, it was far from the rich, decadent experience I had anticipated. The lobster was fresh, but the overall composition lacked the punch and depth needed to elevate it beyond just "okay." The warm herb bread served in the beginning was probably my favorite part of the meal. In the end, the Grant Grill nails its ambience but falls short in delivering a memorable dining experience. With a setting so ideal, the food has the potential to match, but as of now, it seems to be playing catch-up.

We can't here for dinner during our stay at the hotel. Place looks very nice and fancy. I got the old fashioned and the veal. Server suggested I get it medium rare as the cut is lean and it turned out perfect. They also had this amazing focaccia bread that I struggled to not inhale. Food and drinks were great, service was even better. They stayed on top of water refills and were very friendly. Would definitely come back.

LUNCH DINING EXPERIENCE A very lovely experience. Enrique and Roberto took care of us. They were very pleasant and kind. Last time we were here was for Dinner. I actually enjoyed my lunch experience more. We ordered the following... *COBB SALAD- Artisan Mix Greens, Pancetta, Hard Boiled Eggs, Cucumber, Cherry Tomato, Avocado, Smoked Blue Cheese Dressing I Added Wild Tiger Shrimp *GRANT GRILL ALL NATURAL BEEF BURGER -Comte Cheese, Bacon, Caramelized Onions, Bread and Butter Pickles, Butter Leaf Lettuce, Brioche Bun *GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH -Arugula, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fontina Cheese, Tarragon Aioli, Onion Batard The entrees were all delicious. The presentation was top notch. We heard they have really delicious burgers here. That's definitely true. I also enjoyed my salad with the nice plump shrimp. The chicken sandwiches were filling. On the down side, the fries could have been crispy and their "ketchup" was different. For dessert we chose... *LEMON-LIME BRÚLÉE -Coconut Curd, White Chocolate, Shortbread *STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE- Semifreddo, Grilled Pound Cake, Rhubarb Vanilla Gastrique Again, beautiful presentation. The both were yummy but not overpowering sweet which is nice. Overall excellent experience. I actually enjoyed the lunch over dinner experience.
